Removal of the large brain tumor in a woman at the 7th month of pregnancy

During pregnancy, a citizen of the Akmola region began to complain of frequent headaches, dizziness, nausea, periodic vomiting, unsteadiness when walking and double vision. Doctors in Kokshetau ordered an MRI of the brain, which revealed a large tumor in the right hemisphere of the cerebellum.
This case was discussed at a council of doctors of the National Center for Neurosurgery on telemedicine, where a decision was made to surgically treat the pregnant woman in the conditions of the Center for Neurosurgery. The woman was taken to the Republican Medical Aviation and was operated on by leading specialists of the National Center.
As noted by NCN Professor, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery for Brain Pathology Dr. Nurzhan Ryskeldiev, this patient was diagnosed with a volumetric neoplasm of the right hemisphere of the cerebellum with compression of the brain stem, the size of which reached 3 * 2.2 * 2.4 cm, as a result of which the woman became clearly express the symptoms that the pregnant woman complained about.
“We performed a microsurgical operation on a pregnant woman to remove a brain tumor. A neuronavigation system was used during the operation. This allowed us to operate expertly, safely and effectively even in difficult anatomical conditions. The formation was completely removed and functional areas were preserved, and possible neurological complications and disability were also avoided.” - noted the patient’s attending physician, neurosurgeon Dr. Muratbek Tleubergenov.
As the patient herself notes, her condition improved after the operation, her neurological symptoms regressed - the headache quitted, there is no unsteadiness when walking, and what is also important is that the woman walks independently and takes care of herself.
