Department of Radiology and Radiosurgery

Department Equipment:

  • - MRI (3 Tesla, 1.5 Tesla)

  • - CT

  • - X-ray

  • - Gamma Knife

The radiology block consists of MRI, CT, surgical angiography and X-ray rooms. In their work, radiologists rely on the idea that the correct diagnosis can be established by carefully selecting and conducting the most gentle, fast and most appropriate examination methods for each patient. The patient is always in the center of our attention. The department staff have repeatedly completed internships abroad, presented scientific reports at international conferences, are members of Russian and international associations of specialists in radiation diagnostics, and are authors of scientific publications.

We offer the following examinations:

  • X-ray examinations;
  • Magnetic resonance imaging of the head and spine;
  • Magnetic resonance angiography;
  • Computed tomography and computed tomographic angiography of intracranial arteries.

Since 2021, our Center has been using the modern Gamma Knife complex, manufactured by the Swedish company Elekta. Kazakhstan has become the third country in the CIS and the first in Central Asia to have such high-tech equipment.

Gamma Knife

Gamma Knife is a radiosurgical unit for the treatment of tumors, vascular and functional diseases of the brain.

  • - The principle of operation is that radioactive radiation from 192 sources of cobalt-60 is used, the beams of which are collected together and converge in the area of the pathological focus. They destroy the DNA of tumor cells.
  • - Healthy brain tissue and the entire body of the patient are not irradiated.
  • - The operation itself is painless and does not require craniotomy.
  • - The operation is one-time, that is, there is no need to carry out it in several stages, as with radiation therapy.

      Gamma Knife is the "golden standard" of radiosurgical treatment.

Gamma Knife treatment:

Gamma Knife is used for tumor lesions, vascular diseases of the brain. When selecting patients for treatment using Gamma Knife, a certain size of the tumor and vascular lesions of the brain is taken into account. And also to a certain extent, it is possible to use Gamma Knife for multiple brain metastases located in vital structures of the brain, without additional surgical risks.
